Acura Road Trip from North Carolina to Orlando, FL with @PilotTravel

On May 30, just 2 weeks from today, I will be starting my journey from North Carolina to Orlando, Florida in the 2012 Acura TL SH AWD with Tech Package.

In addition to experiencing the Acura TL, I will be taking you, (my audience) along for a ride virtually as I make stops along the way at Pilot Flying J locations. I will be taking you inside the stores by sharing on Twitter pictures and video of what can be found in stores to make traveling convenient and a breeze. The one thing I find very convenient about Pilot Traveling J is I will be able to map out my stops ahead of time and check gas prices with the “My Pilot” mobile App.

I am very excited to be able to have this opportunity to take you along virtually for the 9 hour road trip from NC to Orlando. I will be including fun and unique content and giving you the options to choose what I purchase when I make my stops and what music I listen to. To follow my Acura Road Trip, be sure and follow me @JasonPromotesU on Twitter as I will be using the #AcuraRoadTrip hashtag.

Finally, I want to thank my sponsors Acura, Honda and the Pilot Traveling J brands for making this possible.

See you on the road.

The Mona Lisa Suites Hotel

I had the pleasure of experiencing The Mona Lisa Suites Hotel located in the Celebration area of Kissimmee, Florida recently.

The hotel is very detail oriented and developed with location and luxury in mind. As soon as you enter the lobby you are greeted with a mural on the wall of Mona Lisa and a spiral staircase.

After checking in, I headed to the 4 fourth floor to my 2 bedroom suite.

As I entered my room, I immediately felt at home. Each bedroom had a King size bed with Egyptian style sheets and top of the line pillow top mattresses. Both bedrooms also came equipped with a 27 inch LCD television positioned on the wall, iPod dock radio, and computer desk.

The entrance to the the bathroom is located in each bedroom. As you walk in you will notice a glass styled shower, sink with stylish steel faucets and spa sized tub, not to mention your own personal oatmeal soap, shampoo and shower cap.

The kitchen, dining, and living space were all in same area. The kitchen came equipped with all stainless steel appliances, flat top stove and over head microwave.

In the living area you have a leather couch which folds out into a bed, 27 inch LCD television, and sliding glass door that leads you to the balcony.

Once out on the balcony, you are greeted with the view of lush tropical landscape, pool with lazy river. Also to go with the scenery you have the sounds of Caribbean music.

One thing I found I disliked about this Hotel was the non-existence of free continental breakfast. They do offer a buffet style breakfast for 5.99 and kids under 8 are free. The dining area is very sophisticated which comes equipped with a bar which serves up all your favorite drinks.

If you are looking for a hotel that is friendly, luxurious, and stylish with superb customer service then Mona Lisa Suites Hotel is where you want to be. From the time I checked til the time I checked out I was treated with respect and made feel at home. What more could you want in a Hotel? Thanks Mona Lisa for making my stay a remarkable one.

Is Social Media Use During Travel The Norm?

Checking into Foursquare, posting a status update on Facebook or sharing in 140 characters or less on Twitter is the norm today for an individual when traveling. Why is it the norm? In a Sun Sentinel article, Jennifer Polaro from Albany, NY states why this is true by saying, “I want to be connected with my hometown. I need to know what is going on. I have friends on cruises who are doing the same thing. You can’t break away.”

The article continues on to give reason why many vacationers use social media by saying, “Many visitors find it hard to disconnect during vacation because they feel social (media) pressure to let their friends and followers know what they’re doing and where they’re doing it.”

I agree with the above statement but their are many other reasons why. In addition to visitors feeling social (media) pressure, the use of social media during travel is a way to grow their travel brand and blog, being loyal to their audience and fulfilling an obligation.

  • Travel Brand, Blog – Sharing content while on vacation is a way to gain feedback from the audience so you know what to share on your travel website or blog resulting in exposure and growth.
  • Being loyal – Months before traveling, an individual shares they are traveling to a certain place. When this is conveyed, their audience expresses interest. Social Media is all about what your audience wants to see or hear about. We must remain loyal and deliver as this is a way to gain trust and influence.
  • Obligation – Often many times, a certain hotel, resort, etc will invite a traveler down in exchange for promotion in real time which means sharing pictures and other content as you experience it. To keep our character and credibility intact, we must abide and fulfill our end of the deal.

Social Media use during travel goes beyond checking in to see what’s going on back home and feeling pressure from social media friends and followers. In fact, it’s a job to 1000′s in the travel industry and a way to live their passion resulting in social media use during travel. Not only is it a job to many but it’s advertising for the place we travel to, a chance to showcase creativity, be authentic and build relationship’s with travel brands.

So, is social media use during travel the norm for you? If so, why?

My Experience at Hotel Carmel in Santa Monica Beach, CA

As many of you know I attended a social media conference just over a week ago in Los Angeles. Since this was my first time visiting the area, I decided to arrive 2 days early and check out the Santa Monica Beach area with my friend Nicole Rosen. In searching weeks before arriving in the area, I was on the hunt for a boutique hotel that was inviting and made me feel at home.

I found that home away from home and it was Hotel Carmel, located just 1.5 blocks from the Santa Monica Beach, Pier and Pacific Park.

Once arriving at Hotel Carmel, we were greeted by very welcoming valet staff that took our bags and lead us into the beautiful, warm, rich feeling lobby where the front desk staff made us feel at home. Not to mention, the exquisite decor found throughout.

After checking in, hotel staff kindly lead us to our room. Upon walking into our room, we were amazed at the layout and the beautiful style of wooden furnishings. The room came complete with a separate living and bedroom with work desk and flat screen TV on each wall.

After waking up the next morning from experiencing our room, we felt so refreshed and like we had never left home. For the duration of our stay, we received constant attention from all the hotel staff ensuring our stay was the best ever. Nicole and I thank you Hotel Carmel and your staff for a superb hotel experience. The location of the hotel was in the perfect location as we were able to walk 1 block to Third Street Promenade to enjoy shopping, Starbucks coffee and experience Santa Monica Beach at it’s finest. Evidence is clearly shown that the hotel owners take pride in making everyone’s visit a special and memorable one.
Thanks again!

Hikers Paradise on Hollywood Hills in California

I had the pleasure of visiting the Los Angeles area a week ago to attend a social media and blogging conference. After the conference was over, I decided to spend an extra day checking out the Hollywood area. While having coffee at a local coffee shop in West Hollywood, I asked my server, “Where is the best place to check out the Hollywood sign?” My server replied with, “Hollywood Hills Loop of course.”

I then set out on my journey to the Hollywood Hills Loop. The Hollywood Hills Loop is a 4.5 mile hike up hill and starts at Griffith Park’s ridge. As I began to walk up hill, I immediately felt like I was in a desert while still being in the city. Photobucket

I was greeted by a beautiful presence of the moon Photobucket and spectacular views of the surrounding downtown LA and Hollywood areas. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket The time had finally came when it began to get dark and I began to reach my destination of capturing the Hollywood sign. Photobucket Little did I know I would find a new paradise in Hollywood while being able to experience hiking in a desert like setting with tranquility and peaceful city views around me.

Thank you Hollywood California for the amazing discovery of a hikers paradise.
