The social media platform I use the most is Twitter because it is a much better fit for my lifestyle and attention span than anything else I've found. I enter contests on twitter, meet people, have good conversations about parenting and all kinds of other stuff. I even set up a second twitter account just to discuss politics. Twitter makes it very easy to connect with people and provides a great opportunity to help people connect to other people, to companies and charitable organizations. So many good things about twitter. It loads quickly and allows for more personalization than facebook.

Oh Jason.
It looks so simple, and easy. And then you realise, it's just a sentence. Well, I'll have a go.

In the next five years, I predict Social Media will still be evolving and morphing into more splintered niches that provide what the megasites such as Facebook and Twitter were born from, a specific community sharing specific community information, as users seek to avoid excessive spam marketing on the most popular sites, and relevance of information on 'their' network, by setting their own parameters on membership, a lack of privacy backlash so to speak.

There you go Jason. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I would love to read your sentence, and see what you think Social Media 2015 will look like.

What I mean is do some practice work and let others see what you do. Then ask them how you can perform better.

By "test runs" do you mean pro bono work? If so how would you go about convincing a company to let you take over their web assets without any prior experience. I understand the concept of personal branding of the individual employees of said digital advertising startup. I assume that it would only get you so far in an enterprise role however.

Again I only ask to provide amusing dialogue. Picking the brain of a fellow social media enthusiast.

I would say the answer lies within your business. You need to dissect what kind of results you want to see. Then develop a strategy and immediately put into action.

As far as gain experience, I recommend developing some test runs and promote them asking for feedback.

I must say you do point out quite a bit of decent advice here. Yet just to play devils advocate (Because everyone likes a lively debate :)

What advice would you give digital advertising startups? It's the old chicken or the egg argument. How would a startup gain the experience you say they need in the beginning? If everyone took the above advice and went through with a fine tooth comb and bolted because of a less than impressive twitter following?
